County Superintendents Join National Effort to Combat Illicit Drug Use in Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – [August 8, 2025] – In a pivatol step to combat drug-related issues in Liberia, local authorities including Superintendents from River Gee, Nimba, Montserrado, and Bong Counties joined a national initiative aimed at combating the prevalence of illicit drugs across the country.

The campaign, which was launched on August 7, 2025, seeks to address the growing problem of drug abuse and its detrimental effects on communities, particularly among the youth.

Superintendent Mike Swengbeh of River Gee, along with Madam Kou Meapeh of Nimba, Mr. Whroway Bryant, and Madam Hawa Lokeyah Norris of Bong County, have been recognized for their commitment to enhancing community welfare, social services, and public health.

They emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies, local organizations, and community leaders.

They collectively asserted that a unified approach is essential for effectively tackling the challenges posed by drug trafficking and consumption.

In a conversation with a correspondent from Verity Online News in the capital on August 7, 2025, Swengbeh and his colleagues highlighted the necessity of raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of drug use.

The county leadership have called for the development of prevention programs aimed at addressing the root causes of drug abuse and providing support to those struggling with addiction.

However, the expanding campaign seeks to implement stricter regulations against drug trafficking while promoting rehabilitation efforts for individuals dealing with substance abuse issues.

Through a comprehensive strategy, the initiative aspires to cultivate safer and healthier communities across Liberia.

The involvement of Superintendents Swengbeh, Meapeh, Norris and others local Authorities in the national effort underscores their dedication to safeguarding the well-being of residents and ensuring a brighter future for the youth.
