Sinoe County Senator Crayton O. Duncan has been summoned to the Monrovia City Court over allegations that he has repeatedly failed to provide financial support for his children. The case stems from a complaint filed by Mrs. Tenneh Johnson, representing Jamila K. Burphy and her two minor children, who assert that Duncan has neglected his parental duties.
According to the writ filed, the senator is accused of deliberately disregarding his legal and ethical obligation to maintain and support his children. Mrs. Johnson’s complaint claims that this ongoing failure to provide assistance violates Section 16.5 of Liberia’s New Penal Law, which mandates child support.
The Monrovia City Court has scheduled Senator Duncan’s appearance for February 19, 2025, where he will be expected to respond to these allegations. Meanwhile, this development has generated considerable attention, as it raises serious concerns about the accountability of public officials when it comes to fulfilling personal responsibilities.
