The Civil Service Agency of Liberia has announced through its Director General, Josiah Joekai, that 6,387 names are to be temporarily blocked following an audit conducted by the General Audit Committee (GAC).
These names will be temporarily blocked because they have not been verified and remain unidentified.
Joekai stated that seven unverified businesses were also benefiting from the Civil Service Agency Payroll. “The government has lost a staggering US$2.5 million due to these unverified names,” Joekai explained.
He further stated that a 90-day post-exercise was organized for the verification of names, but only 2,900 names were verified, leaving a total of 6,387 names unverified.
He then said that the action taken by the CSA was to temporarily block those names until further notice.
A verification process was initiated by the CSA to verify names from these unverified individuals who failed to obtain verification.
The verification process started on September 2 and will run through the entire month until early November. Those failing to verify their names by then will be permanently removed from the Civil Service Agency Payroll.
Joekai spoke about mobile money discrepancies and some losses they faced with individuals who were paid through mobile money but were unidentified and unverified as well.
He stated that the GSM companies they worked with provided transaction records to showcase how the payments were made and who received the payments. A total of 220 transactions were made, and they were all unverified.
Also discussing the matter, he explained that 146 employees from the House of Representatives were not verified and were also temporarily blocked until further notice.
“They are the ones who are legitimately employed but have refused to show up for work while still getting paid for work not done.”
He then revealed that the Civil Service Agency has partnered with NASSCORP to ensure the retirement of employees who are expected to retire this year, 2024.
About 3,000 people are expected to retire; however, so far, only 896 individuals have identified themselves for retirement. The process is still ongoing, and they are expected to cover other counties as well.
