CSA Launches National Credential Audit to Uphold Academic Integrity

Monrovia, Liberia – In a decisive effort to strengthen the integrity of its workforce, the Civil Service Agency (CSA) has announced a comprehensive credential audit across all 104 Government of Liberia (GoL) Spending Entities.

This initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Director-General Darlington A. P. Smith, is set to commence in the coming weeks.

The audit aims to verify the legitimacy of employee credentials and assess the manpower strength of the CSA.

In a memo dated September 27, Smith highlighted the critical nature of this exercise in ensuring the civil service’s credibility.

Employees have been urged to update their files with any new credentials by the deadline of October 1, 2024.

The CSA decision to conduct a nationwide credentials Audit stem from a pressure mounted by the Campaigners for Academic Crimes Court (CACC).

The Campaigners for Academic Crimes Court (CACC), a prominent civil society organization advocating for academic integrity, commended the latest decision by the Government for this initiative.

CACC Lead Campaigner and founder Martin K. N. Kollie is calling for an independent panel of investigators to oversee the process, suggesting that the audit extend beyond CSA employees to include political appointees and public figures.

According to a statement issued by CACC, it emphasized the need for a transparent framework to ensure thoroughness in fraud detection and accountability.

Activist Kollie has been calling for a nationwide credentials Audit for almost four years now.

The group reiterated their longstanding recommendations for a nationwide credential audit encompassing all educational institutions and called for stringent penalties for academic fraudsters.

As scrutiny on public sector qualifications intensifies, this audit presents an ultimate opportunity to enhance trust and performance within Liberia’s civil service.

The CSA’s commitment to transparency and thoroughness underscores the significance of this initiative for the nation’s future.
