Cultural Ambassador Refutes “Misinformation” on Lack of Support

Liberia’s Art and Culture Ambassador, Kekura Malawala Kamara, has strongly refuted rumors circulating on social media that he was planning to resign due to lack of government support.

In a passionate address to the press and cultural stakeholders, Kamara dismissed the claims as false and malicious, stating that they were part of a deliberate attempt to undermine his efforts and the ongoing work to preserve Liberia’s cultural heritage.

The controversy erupted after a March 21, 2025, Facebook post claimed that Kamara was considering stepping down from his prestigious role due to frustrations with the government’s failure to allocate resources to his work. However, Kamara rejected these claims, stating, “Let me be clear and direct: This report is entirely FALSE. I have never issued, written, or uttered any statement suggesting that I am resigning or considering resignation from my role as Ambassador of Art and Culture.”

Kamara emphasized that the misinformation directly attacked his personal integrity and the broader efforts to promote Liberia’s cultural identity. He stressed that he remained fully committed to his responsibilities as Ambassador, citing his positive working relationship with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and his administration. Kamara described his appointment as a reflection of President Boakai’s dedication to advancing arts and culture in Liberia.

He further pointed out the close collaboration he has had with the President, recalling their meaningful discussions during a visit to Foya, Lofa County, over the Christmas season. “We met on numerous occasions to discuss strategies for advancing arts and culture in Liberia,” Kamara said, reinforcing the bond between the government and the arts sector.

In addition to rejecting the resignation rumors, Kamara used the opportunity to warn against the spread of false information, urging media practitioners, bloggers, and social media users to uphold journalistic integrity and factual reporting. “Liberia has come too far for us to allow lies and mischief to divert our attention, twist our focus, and derail our noble purpose,” Kamara declared.

He cautioned that the spread of misinformation was not a mere inconvenience but a calculated attempt to sow confusion, undermine progress, and distract from meaningful work in the cultural sector.

Despite the disruption caused by the false reports, Kamara reassured the Liberian people that he remained dedicated to his mission of promoting the nation’s cultural heritage. He emphasized that his role was one of service, not personal gain, and reiterated his commitment to working with the government and cultural stakeholders to preserve Liberia’s artistic traditions.

“I accepted this role not for personal gain but to serve the people of Liberia and to use art and culture as a force for national healing, pride, and development,” Kamara stated.

In closing, he urged Liberians to reject falsehoods and focus on unity and progress. “Let us reject lies. Let us embrace truth. And let us move forward with unity, dignity, and purpose,” he said.
