Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – The Youth League of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in Grand Bassa County has given District #3 Representative Matthew Joe a 30-day ultimatum to meet their demands or lose their political support.
In a letter shared with this paper and sent to Representative Joe, the CDC Youth League said they are very disappointed because he has abandoned them and turned his back on the party in the county. They said he does not attend their meetings and programs, terming his action as a ‘betrayal’.
The group listed four (4) demands they want him to comply with:
1. Five scholarship slots at Grand Bassa University for deserving Youth League members;
2. Immediate payment of outstanding party rental fees in Buchanan to avoid further humiliation;
3. Procurement of a new party headquarters to provide operational stability for the CDC in Grand Bassa;
4. Organization of a “Thank You Program” to honor loyal partisans for their continued sacrifices.
The Youth League emphasized that education, dignity, and recognition are not privileges but rights earned through dedication to the party’s ideals.
This development signals a potential rupture within the CDC in Grand Bassa, as grassroots structures threaten to withdraw support from their own elected representative if their voices remain ignored.
Political observers note that such public confrontation could undermine the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections, especially if grievances from youth structures remain unaddressed.
This paper made efforts to reach Rep. Joe but to no avail. Till yet, Representative Matthew Joe has not publicly responded to the ultimatum at the time of this publication.
