CESTOS CITY, RIVERCESS COUNTY, October 7, 2025 – The Trial Jurors at the 14th Judicial Circuit Court in Rivercess County have found 43-year-old defendant Ayouba Sheriff guilty of Unlicensed Possession of Controlled Drugs and Substances in violation of Section 14.89 (2b) of the Penal Law of Liberia.
According to court records, officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) arrested Sheriff on September 21, 2025, at the ITI Checkpoint in Yarnee District, Rivercess County, with a consignment of marijuana valued at two hundred forty thousand Liberian Dollars (L$240,000).
Following his arrest, the State subsequently indicted Sheriff for possession and transportation of the illegal substance.
After final arguments between the State Prosecutor and the Defense Counsel, the trial jurors returned a unanimous guilty verdict on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The Resident Judge of the 14th Judicial Circuit Court, His Honor D. Onesimus Banwon, is expected to render judgment and sentence the defendant on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
The conviction marks one of several ongoing cases being pursued by the LDEA as part of efforts to curb the trafficking and abuse of narcotic substances in Rivercess County and across Liberia.
