The Ministry of National Defense has officially commissioned a Hospital Management System (HMS) at the 14 Military Hospital in Margibi County, marking a major step toward the modernization of military healthcare services in Liberia.
The launch ceremony, held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, drew senior officials of the Ministry of National Defense, members of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) High Command, and development partners, including representatives of the United States Embassy near Monrovia.
Delivering an overview of the initiative, the Ministry’s Comptroller, Madam Dannamae Gurley-Sirleaf, said the HMS project began in 2024 with the goal of enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in healthcare delivery at the military hospital. She described the system’s rollout as a significant accomplishment and expressed appreciation to the leadership of both the Ministry of National Defense and the AFL for their consistent support.
Formally launching the system, Major Dr. Albertha Clark-Kollie, Commander of the 14 Military Hospital, hailed the initiative as a landmark development in the institution’s growth. She said the HMS will foster a more integrated, patient-focused, and technologically advanced healthcare environment.
According to Major Dr. Clark-Kollie, the system brings together key hospital functions — including patient registration, electronic medical records, appointment scheduling, billing, laboratory services, pharmacy operations, and reporting — into a single secure digital platform. She noted that this integration will minimize delays, strengthen coordination among departments, and allow medical personnel to devote more time to direct patient care.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Colonel Murphy T. Roland, Commander of the 23rd Infantry Brigade, said the HMS launch demonstrates the AFL leadership’s commitment to improving military health services. He emphasized that medical readiness is a cornerstone of operational effectiveness and urged hospital staff to utilize the system with professionalism and discipline.
In brief remarks, Minister of National Defense Brigadier General Geraldine J. George commended the team behind the project for bringing it to fruition. She also praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his leadership, describing the HMS as a critical step toward strengthening governance, transparency, and efficiency within military health institutions.
The minister said the new system will not only benefit members of the Armed Forces of Liberia but also contribute to improved healthcare delivery for the wider Liberian population served by the 14 Military Hospital.
