Hundreds of Liberians defied the heavy downpour of rain to gather, fast, and pray for the nation in Paynesville city, Liberia.
It can be recalled that President Joseph Boakai declared a one-day fast and prayer on Monday, July, 28, 2025, to be observed throughout Liberia on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Despite the nonstop downpour, worshippers and intercessors from all walks of life, including community leaders, youth groups, religious organizations, and ordinary citizens, came together in unity, humility, and reverence to seek divine intervention for the country. The national day of fast and prayer, which is being observed as a public holiday, witnessed similar gatherings across Monrovia and other parts of Liberia.
President Boakai, in his Independence Day address earlier in the week, emphasized the importance of national reflection and spiritual renewal. “As we mark 178 years of our nation’s independence, we must not only celebrate our achievements but also humble ourselves before God, asking for guidance, peace, and unity,” the president said.
The event in Paynesville was characterized by passionate worship, scripture readings, intercessory prayers, and calls for national reconciliation. Many participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to come together in such a meaningful way, regardless of the challenging poor climatic condition.
Religious leaders who led the prayers called on Liberians to continue seeking peace and working toward national development. They urged the government to remain committed to justice, good governance, and economic stability.
This year’s fast and prayer declared holiday marks a solemn yet hopeful moment in Liberia’s post-war journey, reflecting the deep spiritual roots of its people and their enduring hope for a better future.
