MONROVIA – The Deputy Director General for News Media & Rebranding at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Mr. D-Flow Flomo, II, has openly criticized Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Commissioner Patrick Honnah for flaunting cash at a public event, at a time when the country is facing severe economic hardship.
Mr. Flomo’s remarks come on the heels of national concerns raised by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai during his Independence Day address, where he acknowledged the growing levels of unemployment, inflation, and the general suffering of Liberians.
Taking to social media, the LBS official said it was “time for a pay cut” for officials like Commissioner Honnah, whose salaries and benefits, he argues, far outweigh the realities of struggling teachers, police officers, and city officials.
“It is time that Patrick Honnah and his like salaries be cut to give some to those in the discussion: city officials, teachers, police officers, etc.,” Flomo wrote.
He further condemned the public display of extravagance by public officials, warning that such behavior sends the wrong signal to an already frustrated population.
“Our friends are acting wrongly in public,” he added. “It’s unfortunate when they behave in ways that aren’t appropriate in public. Hopefully, they’ll reflect on their actions and make better choices moving forward. It’s important they recognize how their actions affect others.”
The criticism follows viral footage showing Commissioner Honnah allegedly “making it rain” on traditional singers during a birthday celebration for the Minister of Information, prompting backlash from both public and private sectors.
The call by Mr. Flomo adds to growing public pressure on the government to take concrete steps toward equitable salary distribution and address longstanding grievances among civil servants and low-income workers.
