Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah Breaks with CDC, Declares Support for President Boakai

Monrovia, January 5, 2026 — Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Thomas Fallah, has formally announced his departure from the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), declaring his full political support for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Fallah made the announcement on Monday during an interview with the state-owned Liberia Broadcasting System (ELBC), where he confirmed that he no longer supports former President George Manneh Weah or the CDC, the party under which he was elected.

According to the Deputy Speaker, his decision marks a new political direction aligned with the leadership of President Boakai. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the President and said he would support any political candidate endorsed by Boakai, even in the event the President chooses not to seek re-election.

“I am fully committed to supporting President Joseph Boakai and his vision for the country,” Fallah said during the interview. “Whoever the President supports, I will support as well.”

Fallah was previously considered a key figure within the CDC and played a prominent role in the party’s activities in Lofa County. During the 2023 general elections, he actively campaigned for former President Weah’s re-election, particularly in Lofa County, including the strategic district of Foya.

However, his relationship with the CDC leadership deteriorated following an internal power struggle in the House of Representatives. In 2024, the CDC expelled Fallah from the party after he openly supported Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon during a contentious leadership dispute, a move the party viewed as an act of disloyalty.

Political observers say Fallah’s exit from the CDC could have significant implications, especially in Lofa County, where he commands considerable grassroots support. His shift toward the ruling Unity Party-led government is expected to weaken the CDC’s influence in the region while bolstering President Boakai’s political strength, particularly in Foya and surrounding areas.

Fallah’s defection is the latest in a series of political realignments since the change of government and underscores ongoing divisions within the CDC as it reorganizes in opposition.
