DEVACO to Resume Gold Mining in Dahngbor and Cheo Town Under New Community Agreement

Citizens of Dahngbor and Cheo Towns have finalized a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Development of African Commodities Inc. (DEVACO) for renewed gold mining operations on 100 acres of land, set to begin in July 2026. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, December 8, 2025, in Cheo Town, Timbo District, Rivercess County.

The agreement marks a significant milestone, coming after years of concerns surrounding mining activities in the region, including environmental issues, land disputes, and community welfare. DEVACO, a Class “B” mining company whose current license expires in June 2026, previously operated in the area for four years but abandoned its site before 2024—a period during which a tragic landslide claimed the lives of more than 11 people.

Under the new MoU, DEVACO—represented by its General Manager Yang Fang and Operational Manager Shepherd Bao—committed to several development initiatives. These include constructing a town hall equipped with two offices, a bathroom, and solar lighting; providing solar streetlights in both communities; installing hand pump wells; and supporting youth development programs.

Additional obligations outlined in the agreement include the construction of a school covering 120m² in Dahngbor, repairing a 4.3km road beginning May 2026, and prioritizing the employment and training of unskilled workers from the host communities. DEVACO also pledged to elevate trained workers to higher positions with appropriate pay.

With this new MoU, both communities anticipate improved social services, stronger community-company relations, and safer mining operations when activities resume in mid-2026.
