The fast decline of Tubman University needed a quick intervention. The former Principal of Ricks Institute and President emeritus of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, was picked as president/CEO to turn things around.
Dr. Menjay has a history of transforming educational institutions in and out of Liberia. His latest appointment as President/CEO of Tubman University is viewed in many quarters as a win for quality education and improved services at TU.
In an 18-page Strategic Vision for Tubman University sent to this paper, Dr. Menjay laid out his plan with four (4) strategic priorities: Student Success, Academic Excellence, Prestige Branding, and entrepreneurship.
Addressing students and faculty, Dr. Menjay said his leadership is inspired by TU’s collective wisdom and vision while building upon past achievements and embracing new opportunities to propel TU into a future of continued growth and development.
Before developing his strategic vision for TU, Dr. Menjay said he consulted with all stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, board members, alumni, community members, local leaders, elected officials, and educators.
“Through interdisciplinary collaboration and the provision of scholarships, internships, and support services, we are going to foster a culture of praxis and innovation within our academic community,” - Dr. Menjay said.
The longtime educator said the 5Es guide his vision for TU: Enhancing Educational Collaborations, Evisaging Applicable Academic Agendas, Enriching Research and Innovation, Engendering An Open and Conducive Relationship with Staff and Students, and Enduring Strength and Stability.
According to Dr. Menjay, he has been traveling to educational institutions abroad to seek needed support for TU since he became President/CEO. Dr. Menjay has visited Franklin University in Switzerland and Morningside University in the USA.
In another development, the new Minister of Education has also visited Tubman University to assess the challenges at the second-largest State-run university in the country and acquaint herself with education stakeholders in that part of the region. Dr. Jarso Jallah along with Dr. Menjay toured the facilities of TU.
