Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph, renowned for his unwavering humanitarian efforts, has embarked on a transformative initiative to improve the condition of roads in his constituency. The project, aimed at alleviating the challenges posed by poor road conditions, has commenced with the pavement of community roads in District 17.
On Saturday, December 8, residents of the Christian Community in District 17 rejoiced as earth-moving equipment arrived to begin work on their long-neglected roads. The project, part of Senator Joseph’s “Making Montserrado Great Again Development Initiative,” has brought hope to many who have endured the economic and transportation hardships caused by deteriorating infrastructure.
“I remain committed to improving the lives of ordinary people. Election or no election, we must work for our people,” Senator Joseph declared. His dedication was met with cheers and songs of gratitude from community dwellers, who celebrated the long-awaited intervention.
The road project connects major townships in Montserrado County, a critical improvement that residents believe will ease transportation costs and enhance economic activities. Many have described the intervention as timely, especially given the lack of government support under President Joseph Boakai’s administration.
One resident lamented the administration’s failure to include their community in its much-publicized $22.4 million road rehabilitation initiative, a key promise in the president’s first 100 days. “The president said, ‘Under my hundred days deliverables, no car will be stuck on a major road,’ but our major corridor was completely neglected,” the resident said.
Despite their frustrations with the government, the community extended heartfelt gratitude to Senator Joseph for his unwavering commitment to their welfare.
Beyond road construction, Senator Saah Joseph continues to make significant contributions to Liberia’s healthcare sector. Recently, he donated a 40-foot container filled with medical supplies to the referral hospital in Grand Cape Mount County, a gesture valued in the millions of Liberian dollars.
“Back in 2014, I was here to help, and I’m here again,” Senator Joseph stated during the donation ceremony. The health materials are expected to address pressing medical needs in the county, providing relief to a population that has faced severe healthcare challenges.
The senator’s health initiatives don’t stop there. At a press conference on November 26, 2024, he announced plans to establish a Health Emergency Fund aimed at tackling Liberia’s escalating healthcare crisis. This proposed fund, to be sourced from the national budget, seeks to finance hospital renovations, procure modern equipment, and provide financial support to medical professionals, including surgeons and doctors.
Sharing a personal story that underscored the urgency of this initiative, Senator Joseph recounted a tragic incident involving a child who lost an eye to cancer due to inadequate medical facilities. “That broke me. We need to fund the Ministry of Health to help our people,” he said passionately.
Senator Joseph’s dual focus on infrastructure and healthcare showcases his holistic approach to development. Whether through road projects or healthcare reforms, his efforts are geared toward improving the lives of ordinary Liberians. As his initiatives continue to gain traction, he is setting a high standard for political leadership and public service in Montserrado County and beyond.
For the people of Christian Community and Grand Cape Mount County, Senator Joseph’s actions reaffirm the belief that compassionate and effective leadership can bring real change.
