Education Ministry Advances Digital Skills Training for Teachers Nationwide

By Staff Reporter

The Ministry of Education has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening teaching and learning in Liberia through the practical use of educational technology, as part of its broader education reform agenda.

The program, titled Introduction to Educational Technology, is being implemented in collaboration with RESPECT and the SPIX Foundation, and is designed to equip teachers with essential digital skills suited to local classroom conditions.

Unlike technology programs that rely heavily on high-speed internet and expensive equipment, the initiative is tailored to Liberia’s realities, including limited connectivity, scarce resources, and the need for low-cost, durable learning solutions.

Through the training, teachers are being introduced to RESPECT Africa’s DPI-ED solution, a platform designed to support instruction in low-resource environments.

Participants are also developing foundational digital competencies that can be easily integrated into everyday classroom practice, helping them to enhance lesson delivery and student engagement.

According to education officials, the initiative aligns directly with one of the Ministry’s key reform priorities — improving instructional quality by strengthening teacher practice.

The program emphasizes practical application, ensuring that technology serves as a support tool rather than a distraction from effective teaching.

Ministry officials say the approach ensures that schools in underserved communities are not excluded from modernization efforts.

By focusing on adaptability and resilience, the initiative seeks to empower teachers to maintain quality instruction even during disruptions.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the program as a timely intervention that bridges the gap between traditional teaching methods and modern learning demands.

The Ministry noted that education reform is not about introducing technology for its own sake, but about building teachers’ confidence and capacity to deliver quality education in any setting.

Officials believe that strengthening teachers in this way will ultimately lead to improved learning outcomes for students across the country.
