Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Describes Donation Rumors as “Nonsense and Damn Stupid,” Refutes Donating Cash and Cement for CDC

Monrovia, Liberia ~ Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has firmly denied rumors circulating on social media that she contributed US$15,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to the ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) for the construction of its new headquarters.

In a live interview with OK FM, Monday, the former political leader of the Unity Party and two terms president of Liberia described the claims as “total nonsense” and a deliberate attempt to tarnish her reputation.

Anybody who put that crap in the media that I gave CDC $15,000 and 1,000 bags of cement is dem stupid. Say it just like this, and maybe they will stop these dem lies,” Madam Sirleaf said in an unusually blunt response.

She stressed that at no point has any CDC member reached out to her for support, adding that “they have no business to reach out to me.”

Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, said her rebuttal was necessary to protect her character and legacy amid what she called “false and misleading” propaganda.
