Embattled Speaker Koffa Addresses Police Inquiry

Embattled Speaker of the 55th Legislature, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa has responded to a communication from the Liberia National Police (LNP) inviting him and others for questioning concerning the fire incident at the Capitol Building.

The devastating fire, which occurred under unclear circumstances, has prompted widespread concern and intense scrutiny from law enforcement and the public. The LNP’s communication, addressed to Majority Bloc Speaker Hon. Richard N. Koon, seeks cooperation from Koffa and others as part of the ongoing investigation.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Koffa reaffirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and maintained his innocence regarding any involvement in the incident.

“I understand that by communicating to the House of Representatives majority bloc, the Liberia National Police has invited me and others to assist in investigating the fire incident,” Koffa wrote. “Since the unfortunate occurrence of this event, I have consistently cooperated and ensured the cooperation of all persons under my employ.”

Koffa went further to urge the involvement of international partners in the investigation to ensure transparency and impartiality. His call underscores the widespread concern over fairness in the inquiry and the need for an unbiased examination of the incident.

“I must reiterate that I am and remain innocent of any wrongdoing related to the fire,” Koffa added. “I encourage the police authorities to seek international partners’ assistance to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.”

The fire has drawn attention both within and outside Liberia, with lawmakers and citizens alike expressing alarm and calling for answers. As investigations continue, many are questioning the underlying causes of the incident and demanding accountability.
