Environmental Media Group Strengthens Operations with New Policy Adoption

Paynesville, Liberia – The Liberia Forest Media Watch (LFMW) conducted a comprehensive review and adoption session for a new Environmental Media Policy in Paynesville City.

The one-day gathering, attended by LFMW staff, aimed to refine essential policies critical to the organization’s mission.

The policy review was supported by the European Union through the French Development Agency, with expert guidance from Dayugar Johnson, a consultant and new board member for LFMW. Johnson’s involvement follows a needs assessment conducted in 2022, also backed by the EU and Tropenbos International.

The newly adopted policy document addresses crucial issues, including financial management practices, conflict of interest, and gender equality, among others.

LFMW Team Leader Paul Kanneh expressed enthusiasm for the completion of the document, highlighting its significance in enhancing the organization’s credibility and effectiveness.

“This policy will significantly impact our work as an environmental media institution in Liberia,” Kanneh stated. He emphasized the necessity of a guiding document to ensure transparency and effectiveness as LFMW holds the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the mining sectors accountable.

Kanneh also noted that a robust policy framework is vital for establishing trust with partners and donors, who often require such documentation for collaboration.

The adoption of this Environmental Media Policy marks a pivotal moment for LFMW as it continues to advocate for environmental protection and accountability in Liberia.

LFMW is a coalition of like-minded journalists and investigative reporters focusing on the natural resource sector, particularly issues related to forestry, conservation, and community forestry.
