Monrovia, Liberia ~send Director of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), Sam Gaye, has firmly denied widespread rumors suggesting he has been dismissed from his position by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
In a statement shared via WhatsApp, Gaye clarified that he has received no official notice regarding any such action.
“As far as I know, I have not received any communication about my dismissal. I am currently in the U.S. In fact, I spoke with the President this morning and provided a briefing, and he has not told me that I am fired,” Gaye said.
With a touch of humor, the EPS Director added, “When the people fire you, you will see it on Facebook.”
He concluded, “My brother, don’t waste your time. I am still doing my job.”
The rumors of Gaye’s alleged dismissal began circulating on social media earlier this week, particularly among supporters of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). One such post came from Sekou Kalasco Damaro, former special presidential aide to ex-President George Weah, who wrote on Facebook:
“Breaking News: EPS Director Sam Gaye has been sacked!”
However, the Office of the President has moved swiftly to debunk the claim. In a post on her official Facebook page, Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana dismissed the reports as baseless.
“EPS Director Gaye has neither been dismissed nor suspended, contrary to circulating rumors. The claims on social media are entirely false and should be ignored as fake news,” she wrote.
As of press time, no official government statement has been issued to suggest any change in leadership at the Executive Protection Service.
