EPS Issues Warning Over Safety Breaches Around Presidential Convoy

The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has announced enhanced security measures to address growing safety concerns surrounding the Presidential and Vice-Presidential convoys. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and authorized by Director Sam Gaye, the EPS warned against unauthorized behaviors by motorists, emergency vehicles, and pedestrians that compromise the safety of the nation’s leaders and the general public.

According to the release, the EPS has observed repeated incidents of vehicles, including ambulances, fire trucks, individual motorists, and pedestrians, failing to yield to the Presidential motorcade. Such actions, the EPS noted, directly violate Section 10.45 of the Vehicle and Traffic Laws of Liberia, which mandates that motorists yield the right-of-way to emergency and official vehicles.

The EPS emphasized that these violations pose a significant risk to the President and Vice President and threaten public safety. The EPS has implemented strict enforcement measures to address these concerns, including the immediate detention of violators who refuse to comply with traffic laws. Offenders will be transferred to the Liberia National Police for prosecution under Liberian law.

Citizens and motorists are urged to promptly yield to the sound of sirens from the Presidential escort vehicles and adhere to all traffic regulations. The EPS stressed that failure to do so could result in the agency taking appropriate legal and security measures to neutralize any perceived threats to the motorcade.

The EPS called on all Liberians, including emergency responders, to cooperate in ensuring the safe and unhindered movement of the Presidential convoy. The agency emphasized that these precautions are essential for protecting the nation’s leadership and maintaining public order.
