EU Ambassador Assesses Progress of $48M Electricity Project in Sinoe

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Nona Deprez, visited Sinoe County today to assess the ongoing progress of the $48 million EU-funded electricity project that is poised to bring significant improvements in energy access to Grand Bassa, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties.

The project, which aims to enhance the living standards of thousands in the region, will benefit approximately 4,888 people in Sinoe alone. The initiative includes two main power sources: the SRC Hydro Plant and a solar energy system located in Murryville. These power sources are expected to provide sustainable electricity to communities in the targeted counties, facilitating economic development and improving daily life.

Upon arrival, Ambassador Deprez was warmly welcomed by Sinoe County Superintendent, Hon. Peter Wleh Nyensuah. In his remarks, Superintendent Nyensuah expressed gratitude for the EU’s investment in the county’s future and emphasized the transformative impact the project would have on residents’ lives. He stressed that the electricity project would not only power homes but also stimulate local businesses and enhance opportunities for education and healthcare in the region.

During her visit, Ambassador Deprez, along with the Superintendent and Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Hon. Dukley, toured key project sites, including the SRC Hydro Plant and the Murryville solar installation. The delegation observed the ongoing preparations and engaged with the teams working on the ground to ensure that the project proceeds smoothly.

Speaking to local authorities and community members, Ambassador Deprez underscored the EU’s continued commitment to sustainable development in Liberia. She noted that this electricity project is a key example of how international cooperation can drive tangible change for rural communities. The Ambassador also called on local government officials to actively raise awareness about the project’s benefits and foster a peaceful implementation environment.

“This is an important initiative that will change lives here in Sinoe and beyond,” said Deprez. “But it is equally important that we all work together in a spirit of collaboration and peace to ensure the project is successful.”

She further urged local residents to resolve any concerns through dialogue, reinforcing that constructive engagement would contribute to the project’s overall success.
