Former Liberian President and political leader of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), George Weah, has responded to growing public speculation over his health, following the circulation of photos and videos suggesting he may be unwell.
In a message posted to his WhatsApp, Mr. Weah dismissed the rumors and appeared to take aim at his critics.
“You guys can say all you want to say about me. But be reminded that I don’t use makeup to hide my face. I am a natural man,” he said.
The comments come amid a wave of viral content showing the former president in what some viewers have described as a visibly weakened state. The images have sparked concern and debate, particularly among supporters of the governing Unity Party and its affiliates.
Reactions to the footage have been mixed, with critics using the moment to question Weah’s overall health and public presence since leaving office. However, supporters of the CDC have come to his defense, calling the criticism baseless and politically motivated.
Weah, who served as Liberia’s president from 2018 to 2024, has largely maintained a low profile since his departure from office, making occasional public appearances and statements.
As the political climate continues to heat up, observers note that such exchanges are likely to intensify as both the CDC and Unity Party position themselves for influence ahead of future elections in 2029.
