Former President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Sierra Leone’s President, H.E. Julius Maada Bio, on his election as the new Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In a formal message released Tuesday, Weah praised Bio’s ascension to the regional leadership role, describing it as timely and significant given the current political and security challenges confronting West Africa. ECOWAS is grappling with a shifting landscape marked by the recent withdrawal of three member states, as well as growing regional instability.
“His leadership comes at a pivotal moment for our region,” Weah stated. “Given his understanding of regional dynamics and experience in international affairs, I am confident that his stewardship will strengthen ECOWAS, foster unity, and address the pressing threats to our collective stability.”
The former Liberian leader expressed optimism about future collaboration with Bio, wishing him a successful tenure at the helm of the 15-member regional bloc.
President Bio’s election as ECOWAS Chairman was confirmed during the organization’s latest summit, where leaders gathered to discuss strategies for regional integration, peacekeeping, and democratic governance amidst rising security concerns.
