The recent dispensing of expired drugs to a patient at St. Francis Hospital in Cestos City has sparked widespread concern over health service delivery in the region, raising fears about the safety and well-being of citizens. The incident, which resulted in severe health implications for the patient, has cast a spotlight on the quality control processes at local healthcare facilities.
St. Francis Hospital’s Department of Pharmacy issued a formal apology after it was revealed that expired medication was mistakenly given to a patient, prompting the hospital to launch an internal investigation into the matter.
Melvin Gbartoe, the head of the Pharmacy Department, confirmed the incident in an interview, expressing regret over the error. “We deeply regret this mistake and assure the public that we are taking immediate and serious action against those involved,” Gbartoe said. “An internal investigation has been launched, and we are implementing stricter monitoring systems to ensure this does not happen again.”
The error has raised significant concerns among the public regarding the oversight mechanisms in place to prevent such lapses, with many questioning how expired drugs were allowed to be dispensed. Gbartoe reassured citizens that the hospital is committed to improving its procedures and ensuring patient safety in the future.
Flomo Yougie, the Health Promotional Focus Person, also addressed the issue, acknowledging the media’s vital role in exposing the situation. While praising journalists for holding the hospital accountable, Yougie urged the public to seek clarification from the hospital’s authorities before making further assumptions. “Accurate and verified information is essential in maintaining the hospital’s reputation and ensuring public trust is not further damaged,” Yougie stated.
