Faith and Justice Network Wants Rep. Saah Foko Disciplined

The Faith and Justice Network of Liberia has vehemently condemned recent remarks made by Montserrado County District #9 Lawmaker, Frank Saah Foko, describing his statements as reckless and irresponsible.

The Network expressed deep concern and outrage over Rep. Foko’s threat to burn down the House of Representatives, calling it a significant affront to Liberia’s democratic institutions.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Rep. Foko, in an uncharacteristic outburst, threatened to set fire to the Legislature, criticizing the body for what he perceived as a failure to act in the interest of the Liberian people.

He further castigated his colleagues, labeling them as ‘nincompoops’ for not establishing a centralized committee to investigate certain current government officials.

In a press conference held on Monday, July 8, 2024, Dr. Tolbert Jallah, speaking on behalf of the Faith and Justice Network, described Rep. Foko’s comments as derogatory and reckless, emphasizing that they constitute a severe affront to the legislative body.

“The derogatory and reckless remarks from Representative Frank Saah Foko are an affront to the legislature’s humility and dignity, and to the nation’s democratic institution,” Dr. Jallah stated.

Dr. Jallah underscored that such statements undermine the fundamental principles of governance, accountability, and the rule of law.

“This has no place in our democratic society. His threats undermine the very democratic principles of governance, accountability, and the rule of law that our nation is built upon,” he emphasized.

The Faith and Justice Network has called on Rep. Foko to immediately retract his statement and issue a public apology to the Liberian people.

They also urged the leadership of the House of Representatives to take appropriate disciplinary action against Rep. Foko to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated and to uphold the dignity and integrity of the legislative body.

Dr. Jallah strongly believes that public servants, especially elected officials, must conduct themselves with the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and respect for the institutions they represent.

He pointed out that Rep. Foko’s threats not only jeopardize the safety and security of the Legislature but also erode public trust in the legislative process.

“The statement made by the Montserrado District #9 lawmaker has set a dangerous precedent and diverts attention from the pressing issues that matter to the citizens of Liberia,” Dr. Jallah noted.

The Faith and Justice Network is urging all lawmakers to remember the oath they swore to serve the Liberian people with dedication and to address their grievances through appropriate and constructive means.

“Resorting to threats and violence is not only unacceptable, but it’s also counterproductive to the progress and development of our nation,” Dr. Jallah added.

The Advocate group stressed that public officials should prioritize the needs and well-being of the people they serve over personal or material gains.

At a time when Liberia faces numerous challenges, it is imperative that leaders demonstrate responsibility, unity, and a commitment to democracy and justice.

The Network’s Secretary General reiterated that public servants must uphold these values to maintain the integrity of the nation’s democratic institutions.

The Faith and Justice Network’s condemnation of Rep. Foko’s statement reflects a broader concern about the state of political discourse and governance in Liberia.

Inflammatory rhetoric and threats of violence undermine the country’s democratic fabric and detract from the critical work of addressing the nation’s many socio-economic challenges.

As Liberia continues to pinpoint its path toward development and stability, the actions and words of its leaders carry significant weight.

The Network’s call for accountability and responsible conduct is a reminder that the country’s progress hinges on the integrity and commitment of its elected officials to serve the public good.

The coming days will showcase as to whether the House of Representatives will respond to the Network’s call for disciplinary action against Rep. Foko.

Foko’s undisciplined incident highlights the zero importance of upholding democratic principles and maintaining public trust in Liberia’s governance structures.

The Faith and Justice Network’s advocacy for responsible leadership and adherence to the rule of law is a critical step in ensuring that Liberia’s democracy remains strong and resilient.
