Authorities have arrested Sam Worlobah, an Operating Room Technician, for allegedly posing as a medical doctor and performing a fatal surgical procedure that led to the death of 30-year-old Samuel P. Kollie. The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) confirmed his arrest and announced the immediate closure of Lofa Medic Services Clinic in Neezoe, Jacob Town, where the unauthorized surgery took place.
According to the LMDC, Worlobah, who was the clinic’s administrator, falsely presented himself as a licensed doctor and carried out the operation despite lacking the required medical qualifications. The botched procedure resulted in Kollie’s death, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
Following preliminary findings, the LMDC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, ordered the closure of the clinic and referred Worlobah to the Liberia National Police for further criminal proceedings. The council emphasized that the case underscores a growing concern over unqualified individuals infiltrating the healthcare sector, putting patients’ lives at risk.
James-Emmanuel D. Cole, Jr., a representative of the LMDC, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Liberia’s medical profession. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that only qualified professionals serve in Liberia’s healthcare sector,” he stated.
The LMDC expressed appreciation for the support from the Ministry of Justice’s Public Safety Department and vowed to intensify efforts in weeding out unlicensed practitioners. Meanwhile, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of medical fraud to prevent further tragedies.
