As Nimba County mourns the passing of their “political hero”, Senator Prince Johnson, another tragedy has shaken the county, leaving four citizens dead and two others critically injured.
The incident occurred today during the early afternoon hours when a vehicle belonging to the late Senator was involved in a fatal accident en route to Nimba County. The vehicle, reportedly carrying six passengers, veered off the road, resulting in a catastrophic crash.
The disaster took place near Mark Farm along the Weala-to-Kakata corridor, close to Steve Allen Farm on the highway. The victims were traveling from Nimba. Among those killed were one of the senator’s wife’s brothers, one of the senator’s cooks.
Eyewitnesses at the scene attributed the accident to excessive speed, which they described as “unbelievable” and far exceeding the road’s safe speed limit. “The driver appeared to have lost control due to the high speed,” one witness explained. “It was devastating to see the aftermath.”
The loss of life from this accident comes at a particularly somber time for Nimba County residents, who are still grappling with the death of Senator Prince Johnson. Known for his political influence and controversial legacy, Johnson’s passing had already plunged the county into mourning.

Today’s accident, seen as another blow to the county, has sparked widespread shock and questions about road safety measures and the apparent disregard for speed limits. “This is not the time for more tragedies,” a local resident lamented. “We have just lost one of our great leaders, and now we are losing more of our own people to a preventable accident.”
The incident comes as Liberia prepares for its festive season, a time when economic activity and travel typically increase. Historically, this period has seen a surge in road accidents, often attributed to heightened vehicular activity, poor road conditions, and reckless driving.
Transportation authorities and community leaders are being urged to raise awareness about road safety and enforce stricter measures to prevent similar incidents. “Speeding has always been an issue, but with the festive season approaching, we cannot afford to lose more lives,” said a concerned citizen.
For now, Nimba County finds itself mourning not only the loss of Senator Prince Johnson but also the tragic deaths of four individuals whose lives were cut short in today’s accident. As the county reflects on these devastating events, the hope remains that steps will be taken to prevent further loss of life during such a difficult time.
