Fatality Caused By Deplorable Bamboo Town Bridge as Gbarpolu Student Association Urges Urgent Action

Gbarpolu County, Liberia — “The bridge has become a dangerous zone with its poor condition resulting in multiple accidents and the loss of many lives,” Varfee A Kamara, President, AGUS asserted.

The Association of Gbarpolu University Students (AGUS) has called on the Ministry of Public Works to urgently repair the Bamboo Town Bridge, citing the deteriorating structure as a serious threat to public safety.

According to AGUS President Varfee A. Kamara, the bridge ~ which links Gbarpolu’s capital to the Emirates Hospital ~ is in a dangerously poor condition and has already been the site of multiple accidents and fatalities.

In a formal letter to the ministry, Kamara stressed the need for immediate intervention. “The structural integrity of the bridge is severely compromised, posing a risk to all who use it,” he stated. “This situation traumatizes our people and hampers economic growth, healthcare access, and education.”

The student association is urging not only emergency repairs but also long-term maintenance measures and engagement with local stakeholders to develop a sustainable solution. AGUS is also appealing to Hon. Zinnah Norman, the lawmaker representing Bopolu District, to provide legislative oversight and push for swift government action.

“This intervention will not only save lives but also stimulate economic activity and ensure critical access to healthcare and education,” Kamara noted.

The letter, officially signed by Kamara, emphasizes the association’s deep concern and its commitment to advocating for the welfare of Gbarpolu residents.
