FDA Grand Gedeh Detachment Arrests 48 Burkinabè Nationals in Konobo Community Forest

By D. Abraham Cooper

Grand Gedeh Correspondent,

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh ~ The Forestry Development Authority (FDA) detachment in Grand Gedeh County has arrested 48 Burkinabè nationals along with one Liberian host for alleged illegal activities in the Konobo Community Forest.

The arrests were made as part of an ongoing operation to curb unauthorized deforestation and farming within protected community forest areas. According to the FDA, the suspects were apprehended while clearing land in the forest, which has been designated for conservation under national environmental regulations.

Speaking to reporters, the head of the FDA in Grand Gedeh County, Madam Yei Neagor, confirmed the arrests and emphasized that this is not the first time foreign nationals have been caught engaging in illegal activities within concession zones.

She noted that the FDA had previously issued public warnings via local radio stations and online platforms, informing the public that deforestation and farming activities are strictly prohibited in protected areas.

The community forest in Konobo is part of a nationally recognized conservation zone,” Madam Neagor stated. “We have consistently warned that no farming or deforestation is allowed in these areas, yet violations continue.”

Madam Neagor added that preparations are underway to turn over the suspects to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
