Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) Urges Protesters to Remain Peaceful Ahead of July 17 Protest

The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) is calling on all Liberians, especially young people, to demonstrate peacefully and respectfully during the July 17 protest organized by Solidarity and Trust for a New Day. FLY reminds citizens that their constitutional right to protest must be exercised with civility, avoiding violence or actions that could harm others.

FLY highlights Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution, which ensures the right to peaceful assembly, and supports international treaties like the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the ICCPR that promote non-violent protest.

They commend the Liberian government, particularly the Ministry of Justice, for granting a protest permit, demonstrating respect for democratic principles.

The group also acknowledges Liberia’s Joint Security Forces for maintaining order and urges continued restraint and professionalism during engagements with demonstrators.

FLY warns against political exploitation of youth, affirming its commitment to being a non-partisan organization advocating for youth rights and welfare across Liberia.
