Monrovia, Liberia – Jemamon Jumbo, a single mother and recent employee at Diamond Mineral Water, has come forward with alarming allegations detailing experiences of sexual exploitation and mistreatment in the workplace.
According to Jumbo, she was directed to Moses Telewayan, the company’s Human Resource Officer for a job opportunity. However, upon meeting him, he reportedly made it clear that her hiring was contingent upon engaging in a sexual relationship with him. “As a single mother with children to care for, I felt forced to comply,” she stated, describing her struggle to balance personal morality with the pressures of providing for her family.
After succumbing to Telewayan’s advances, Jumbo was granted the position she sought. Nevertheless, she sought to end their relationship, citing his marital status. In response, Jumbo claims Telewayan threatened to terminate her employment if she refused to continue the arrangement. “Fearing for my job, I reluctantly tolerated him,” she admitted.
Despite notifying management about the inappropriate dynamic, Jumbo faced further harassment. “He continued to wait for me on my way home, pressuring me to sleep with him again,” she described, noting that her consistent refusals were met with escalating mistreatment at work, including being assigned tasks outside her responsibilities.
Things took another turn when Jumbo was subsequently sidelined from her duties. Feeling the weight of ongoing issues and an increasing sense of injustice, she sought support from her department’s chairman, who promised to advocate on her behalf. However, shortly after, she was informed that no investigation into her claims would occur, resulting in her being sidelined from her work for an extended period, from April 3rd to May 12th.
As the situation progressed, management provided her two weeks to prepare to address her issues, sidelining her further and indicating a broader issue of labor exploitation within the company. Jumbo emphasized that she is not alone in her concerns, pointing to previous reports regarding unsafe practices at Diamond Mineral Water. “I am addressing issues of labor exploitation here because it needs to change,” Jumbo remarked passionately.
However, when contacted for response, through WhatsApp and direct message, calls, the company failed to comment on the matter until publish time.
These allegations raise serious questions regarding workplace ethics and the treatment of employees at Diamond Mineral Water. As the story unfolds, many are calling for immediate investigations into Jumbo’s claims and a reassessment of the company’s labor practices.
