The Federation of Fula Students of Liberia (FFUSOL) has officially launched the “Yaya Sow Educational Initiative (YASEI)”, renaming its flagship scholarship and financial aid program in honor of the late Veteran Yahya Sow.
The announcement was made in a press release issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, by FFUSOL’s national leadership, who described Sow as a man of immense humility, wisdom, and dedication to public service.
Known for championing education, youth empowerment, and national unity, Sow’s passing earlier this year left a significant void in the Liberian community. But FFUSOL says his spirit lives on.
“Yahya Sow gave his all to humanity, education, and the advancement of young people, especially within the Fula community,” the statement read. “This initiative ensures that his life’s work continues to open doors for the next generation.”
Scholarship Drive and Book Distribution
As part of the launch, FFUSOL is kickstarting the YASEI initiative by sponsoring 100 students to sit for the University of Liberia’s entrance examination.
The first phase will include 10 students from diverse backgrounds, reflecting Sow’s commitment to inclusivity and cross-cultural unity.
Additionally, the organization will embark on a nationwide book distribution campaign across Liberian schools, an annual tradition initiated by Sow himself, to welcome students back to school and promote academic readiness.
National Recognition and Gratitude
The Federation also expressed profound appreciation to President Joseph N. Boakai for his condolence message to the family of Yahya Sow and the broader Fula community.
The message was seen as a meaningful show of respect from the highest office in the land.
FFUSOL also commended Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung for his physical presence at Sow’s funeral, calling it an “extraordinary act of solidarity” that deeply touched mourners and honored Sow’s legacy.
Fundraising Dinner and National Call to Action
To sustain the YASEI program, FFUSOL announced plans to host a memorial dinner and fundraising event, during which the Annual Personality of the Year Award (PAPI 2025) will be presented.
The award aims to celebrate individuals who embody the leadership, service, and educational advocacy championed by Sow.
The Federation is calling on government leaders, especially from the Unity Party, including Youth Congress Chair Togar Melvin Cephas, Secretary General Amos Tweh, and National Chairman Luther Tarpeh, to rally behind the initiative and help ensure its long-term success.
A Legacy Etched in the Nation’s Conscience
Veteran Yahya Sow was remembered as more than a public servant.
He was described as a father figure, mentor, and nation-builder, who believed deeply in the power of education and peaceful coexistence.
“Your vision guides us. Your name will forever be remembered, not only in our hearts but in the opportunities we continue to create for generations to come,” FFUSOL’s statement concluded.
