Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has praised the leadership and progress of Lofa County University (LCU) following a tour of the academic institution, describing the achievements made despite limited resources as impressive.
“I have come to see what you are doing with the little money we have given you, and I am impressed. I will be your lead advocate moving forward,” Minister Ngafuan told Dr. Isaac Podah, President of LCU.
Under Dr. Podah’s leadership, LCU has experienced significant infrastructural and academic development. Continued support from the Government of Liberia, led by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, has helped the university record a remarkable increase in student enrollment, reflecting renewed confidence in the institution and its future.
The Minister also visited Free Pentecostal University, where he was invited to discuss the challenges faced by the institution.
Student Council President Mr. Tokpa M. Tarnue Sr. highlighted that many students are self-supported, and the school relies heavily on tuition collected to pay lecturers.
He stated that Free Pentecostal university (FPU)currently receives no government funding. Mr. Tarnue appealed to the Minister to help place Free Pentecostal university on the national budget as it is the oldest higher learning institution in Lofa County.
Dr. Dorbor M. Akoi supported the students’ council president’s appeal, emphasizing the challenges faced by the school and the need for government assistance. He noted that not all students can attend government-run schools due to various constraints but stressed that all students are Liberian and deserve support.
Hon. Nganfua said, he has take note of the request and he will make sure to work in line with Lofa county legislative caucus in making sure that, Free Pentecostal university can receive some help as well.
