Butaw, Sinoe County – A tragic confrontation has left the Butaw community mourning after 48-year-old fisherman Cefus Dixon was allegedly killed during a violent altercation over an earpiece belonging to his son.
The incident is reported to have occurred between 7 and 8 PM along the sea coast of Butaw District, following an earlier misunderstanding earlier in the day with 21-year-old Oscar, who was allegedly insulted by Dixon when questioned about the missing earpiece. Eyewitnesses noted that onlookers had managed to diffuse the tension initially, but the dispute escalated later in the evening, culminating in a physical fight.
During the altercation, witnesses state that Oscar, along with an unidentified accomplice, assaulted Dixon, during which he was reportedly stabbed with a knife. Despite swift efforts by local residents to transport him to Greenville for medical treatment, Dixon was pronounced dead while en route.
In the aftermath, the Liberia National Police apprehended Oscar as the primary suspect in the incident. Authorities are currently searching for another individual believed to be connected to the attack, who is still at large.
The murder of Cefus Dixon has sent shockwaves through the Butaw community, prompting calls for immediate justice and stricter measures to curb violence in the region.
