The five-time Champions of Women’s Football in Liberia, Determine Girls F.C., have traveled to Senegal to compete in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Champions League Qualifier.
The regional tournament was inaugurated in 2021 in Cape Verde, where Determine Girls made their debut, finishing in third place despite missing out on qualification to the main tournament.
They made history the following year by becoming the first Liberian women’s club to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
In the 2023 edition, the club once again showed resilience, securing third place behind Senegal’s AS Dakar (runners-up) and Mali’s AS Mandé (champions).
However, their campaign ended in heartbreak, as a narrow loss to Aigles de la Medina on the final matchday in Sierra Leone dashed their hopes of qualification despite only needing a draw.
Now, all eyes are on the 2025 qualifiers, as the Liberian giants look to return to the continental stage.
Determine Girls open their campaign against Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League champions, Ram Kamara FC, on Tuesday, August 8 at 7:00 PM local time.
Matchday two sees them take on USFAS of Mali at 7:00 PM GMT, before clashing with hosts Aigles de la Medina on matchday three at 4:00 PM GMT.
A tough encounter waits on matchday four when they face Gambian side Berewuleng FC at 5:00 PM GMT.
The Club president Grace H. Weah, popularly known as “Master Queen,” expressed optimism ahead of the team’s departure for Senegal, stating that the squad is focused and determined to bring pride to Liberia once again.
Determine Girls FC are aiming not just to make history with another appearance, but to secure qualification once more and showcase Liberian women’s football on the continental stage.
