Ex-Asst. Minister Breaks Silence; Accuses Kemayah of Diverting US$2.5 Million Saudi Aid

Maxwell Vah, former Assistant Minister for American Affairs under the leadership of ex-president George Weah, has levied serious accusations against ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Dee Maxwell Kemayah, claiming the former top diplomat misappropriated US$2.5 million in funds donated by the Government of Saudi Arabia.

According to Vah, the money ~ intended for food aid and the rehabilitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ~ was allegedly diverted by Kemayah in 2022. Vah says he repeatedly raised the matter during cabinet meetings, but his concerns were dismissed by then-President George Weah.

The allegations come amid a broader investigation into the reported diversion of rice meant for humanitarian purposes. Addressing the controversy, Vah urged the public not to view the government’s inquiry as a political witch hunt. He emphasized that Kemayah must take full responsibility and work to clear his name.

The Ministry of Justice has yet to issue a formal response to the latest claims. Kemayah has also not publicly addressed the allegations.
