Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed the arrest of Amos K. Koffa, a key suspect in the December 18, 2024, arson attack on the Capitol Building. Koffa, who was previously charged in absentia, was taken into custody on September 1 at the Loguatuo Border during a joint security operation.
Koffa, who once served as the Maintenance Department Supervisor at the Capitol, fled Liberia on April 6, 2025, under the alias “Roland King” amid growing suspicions of his involvement in the fire that severely damaged parts of the Capitol Building. Authorities believe he received assistance from other unnamed suspects in orchestrating his escape.
Following months of coordinated intelligence work with the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL, LNP investigators tracked Koffa to Ghana, where he had been hiding. He narrowly evaded arrest in July during a security sweep but remained under close surveillance.
His capture this week marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. The LNP confirmed that Koffa is currently being held at Police Headquarters in Monrovia and is undergoing further questioning. Police officials stated that he will be formally charged and brought before the court in due course.
In a press statement, the Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and accountability for all individuals linked to the Capitol arson case.
“The LNP remains resolute in pursuing all those responsible for this attack on our national institution,” the statement read. “Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.”
The December 2024 fire at the Capitol Building sparked public outrage and led to widespread calls for accountability. Authorities continue to search for additional suspects believed to be connected to the incident.
