In a surprising turn of events, several former critics and opposition figures of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) President, Julius Kanubah, have publicly pledged their support for his leadership and potential reelection bid.
The shift in sentiment was expressed during the official dedication of the PUL Head Office on 9th Street, Sinkor. The event, which marked a milestone for the union, also became a platform for members to acknowledge the progress made under Kanubah’s administration.
Journalists who previously opposed Kanubah’s candidacy now credit his leadership for bringing innovation and renewed dignity to the institution in a relatively short time.
Speaking to Verity News shortly after the dedication ceremony, Winston Blyden, a reporter at Banna FM and a vocal critic during the last election cycle, expressed his change of heart.
“I never supported Julius in the election as president, but for the fact that he has brought dignity to the Press Union of Liberia, it’s now time we put aside politics,” Blyden said. “If he continues this way, then I will certainly support his second-term bid.”
The show of support from opposition members suggests growing unity within the PUL and could signal a strong backing for Kanubah should he seek reelection.
