By Ben TC Brooks

River Gee County | March 26, 2026 | Former Deputy Minister for Development, Research, and Extension at Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. George Tee Forpoh, has officially announced his intention to contest the River Gee County senatorial seat in the 2029 general and presidential elections.

Dr. Forpoh made the declaration on March 25, 2026, through a message shared in one of the county’s popular communication chatrooms.

In his statement, he noted that his decision followed a series of extensive consultations and strategic engagements with stakeholders across the county.

“Good day, my dear brothers and sisters. Following exhaustive consultations, alignments, and realignments, I have today accepted to contest the Senate seat for River Gee County in 2029,” he wrote.

When contacted by Verity News for confirmation, Dr. Forpoh reaffirmed his political ambition, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the development agenda of River Gee County.

“Yes indeed, this is from me, George Tee Forpoh, PhD. I have decided to contest in order to help lift the face of River Gee in the honorable Liberian Senate,” he stated.

Dr. Forpoh previously served in the administration of former Liberian President George Weah, where he was appointed Deputy Minister on October 18, 2019.

During his tenure, he oversaw initiatives related to regional development, agricultural research, and extension services.

A highly respected agricultural and natural resources management professional, Dr. Forpoh holds a PhD and brings extensive experience in rural development, Monitoring and Evaluation – M&E, and environmental impact assessment.

His career includes collaborations with international non-governmental organizations and agencies of the United Nations.

He hails from Gbeapo Kanweaken, River Gee commercial hub located in electoral district 1, River Gee County, and is widely regarded as a development-focused technocrat with deep ties to grassroots communities.

Dr. Forpoh’s entry into the race brings the number of known contenders for the 2029 senatorial election in River Gee County to two for now.

Prior to his announcement, U.S.-based Liberian James Collen. Taylu had already declared his candidacy for the same seat.

The senatorial position is currently held by Senator Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie, whose seat will be contested at the end of the current term

With nearly three years remaining before the elections, political observers say the early declarations signal the beginning of what could become a competitive race in River Gee County.

Residents expect development agendas, diaspora engagement, and grassroots mobilization to play key roles in shaping the campaign.

Dr. Forpoh’s candidacy, backed by his technical expertise and government experience, is likely to influence the dynamics of the race as more aspirants may emerge in the coming months.
