Former Sinoe County Senator J. Milton Teahjay Says “CDC Will Be Dead Before 2029”

Greenville, Sinoe County, July 29, 2025 – Former Senator and Superintendent, Hon. J. Milton Teahjay, observed Liberia’s 178th Independence Day by returning to Greenville, Sinoe County, where he engaged citizens in a highly anticipated discussion at the now-iconic Amuwulu Atayee Shop. Amid expressions of gratitude and reflections on his political journey, tough-talking Teahjay, a one-time staunch supporter of the CDC, delivered a firing political commentary, stating unequivocally that the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is unlikely to survive politically before 2029.

“The very CDC for which politically I was taking myself to the slaughter hall, they were the ones that came here and circumcised me politically. But give yourself now and 2029 whether there will be a CDC,” Teahjay asserted in a louder tone.

The gathering, attended by a cross-section of Greenville residents, including the intelligentsia class, served both as a thanksgiving and a political clarifier. Teahjay emphasized that he holds no grudge from the 2023 senatorial election, expressing appreciation to both his supporters and opponents.

“I came here to say thank you,” he said. “To those who stood with me, and even to those who opposed me, I say: go home, think about it, and sleep. I hold no grudge.”

He further entertained the crowd with political anecdotes, including a memorable one from the late Gabriel Baccus Matthews. When a pastor once asked Baccus why so many political parties existed in Liberia, he replied: “Are you people not complaining about the many churches springing up every day? Why then complain about many political parties?”

In his 45-minute address and 30-minute Q&A session, Teahjay addressed recent speculation sparked by local media reports suggesting a potential return to the CDC. He dismissed these reports as false, reiterating that he remains a loyal and committed member of the Unity Party.

“At no time did I say I would contest on the CDC ticket. I remain with the Unity Party, and I have no intention of returning to the CDC,” he emphasized.

This clarification comes in response to media stories dating back to July 16, 2018, when The New Dawn newspaper reported that Teahjay, along with the late Rep. J. Nagbe Sloh and now-Senator Crayton Duncan, had allegedly joined the CDC. In a phone call placed to Teahjay earlier today, he strongly refuted the claim, stating:

“I have never, at any time in history, returned to the CDC. I am a card-carrying member of the Unity Party.”

Reflecting on his controversial support for the CDC-led government during his Senate years, Teahjay offered a political and cultural rationale:

I supported the CDC agenda because I cannot fight a Southeastern President, especially when I’m from a Kru-dominant region. It would have been unwise to oppose a Kru son—I thought it better to support his agenda for the good of the region.”

Addressing his political rivalry with current Sinoe County Senator Augustine Chea, Teahjay joked:

“If the CDC ever needs me again, they will have to choose between me and Augustine Chea. But even if they choose Augustine, which I know they will, I will still flog him.”

Despite the fiery rhetoric, Teahjay’s remarks were delivered in his charismatic style—colorful, dramatic, but ultimately grounded in strategic reflection. His message was clear: his loyalty lies firmly with the Unity Party, and his appearance in Greenville was about healing, appreciation, and political clarity—not aligning with any new political agenda.

As the political winds shift in anticipation of 2029, Teahjay remains a vocal and formidable presence in Sinoe County’s political landscape; one who insists that the CDC is fast losing relevance and is on a course to collide before 2029.
