Ghanaian Miner Killed in Fatal Mining Accident in Rivercess

ITI, Bearwor, Rivercess County – A tragic mining accident has claimed the life of 28-year-old Ghanaian national Sherman Dukai, who died during a late-night drag mining operation in ITI on Friday, July 4, 2025.

According to family sources, Dukai was working for an employer known only as Musa when a sudden collapse of earth buried him underground, resulting in his untimely death.

Titus Jacob, a family spokesperson, described the incident as devastating. He confirmed that Dukai was laid to rest on Saturday, July 5, 2025, following a brief funeral service attended by local residents and fellow miners.

“We are deeply saddened by his passing,” Jacob said. “We’re calling on all Ghanaian miners in the area to temporarily suspend drag mining activities—especially during the rainy season—to help prevent further loss of life.”

Mining-related fatalities caused by pit collapses have become increasingly common in Rivercess County’s mining zones, including ITI, prompting growing concern over safety protocols and the enforcement of mining regulations.

In response to the incident, local elders are urging miners to take extra precautions, warning that ongoing heavy rains are weakening pit walls and significantly increasing the risk of deadly accidents.
