‘Give Us Chance’-Boakai Pleads with Liberians for Patience

During a fundraiser and political rally at the homecoming of the ruling Unity Party in Congo Town, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai made a bold plea to Liberians to be patient. “Give us chance, it won’t happen overnight.”

During the fundraiser and political rally in Congo Town, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai also promised that his government will get school-going children off the streets in Liberia. The President made similar promise while on one of his campaign trails in 2023.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai used the Unity Party’s homecoming event in Congo Town to reassure supporters and the broader public that his administration remains committed to delivering the reforms promised during the 2023 campaign.

Addressing party members, lawmakers, and supporters, Boakai said the government is working to reverse years of decline and mismanagement and appealed for continued patience as his team implements its agenda.

According to the President, Liberians voted for change during the 2023 elections, choosing what he described as integrity and stability over what he called the “chaos, incompetence, lethargy, and reckless mismanagement” of the previous CDC administration.

He argued that under his leadership, Liberia’s international reputation is improving, citing what he called renewed respect for Liberian passports and improved treatment of Liberians abroad.

Boakai highlighted two significant diplomatic milestones: Liberia’s re-election to Category A of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026–2027 terms and the country’s upcoming inauguration as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

These developments, he said, place Liberia at the center of critical global decision-making processes.

On the domestic front, the President said his administration is driving economic renewal by attracting foreign investors, creating jobs, stabilizing market prices, and improving road connectivity across Liberia.

He noted that travel has eased significantly and that citizens are no longer forced to pass through neighboring countries to reach the Southeast.

However, Boakai cautioned supporters against expecting rapid change, reminding them that “transformation is not an event” and that lasting progress requires discipline, unity, and sustained effort.

He urged partisans to recommit to the Unity Party through active participation and supports, emphasizing those strong political institutions depend on the contributions of their members.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to the ARREST Agenda, accountability, reform, economic stability, service delivery, and transparent governance-which he described as the key to ensuring meaningful improvement in the lives of Liberians.

Boakai also extended appreciation to opposition and independent lawmakers who attended the event, calling their presence a demonstration of patriotism and a desire for national cohesion.

He invited others from opposing parties to join the Unity Party, saying the government is open to collaboration with leaders who seek a more prosperous Liberia.

In closing, Boakai thanked members of the Rescue Mission and the 23-party Unity Party Alliance for their steadfast support. He assured them that his administration remains dedicated to fulfilling the mandate entrusted to it.

“Rest assured, we will not let you down,” he said, as supporters cheered. “Long live the Unity Party!”
