In a significant move to strengthen the healthcare workforce, the Government of Liberia has placed 600 volunteer healthcare workers on the official government payroll. The announcement was made by Dr. Josiah Joekai, Director-General of the Civil Service Agency, during a press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
According to Dr. Joekai, the move is part of the government’s broader effort to recognize and regularize the contributions of volunteer healthcare workers across the country. He noted that out of a total of 761 volunteers, 600 have already been absorbed into the government system.
He further disclosed that the remaining 161 volunteer healthcare workers are currently under review for potential employment in the near future.
