Government to Construct 23.75MW Solar Power Plant with Battery Storage

Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced the signing of a new agreement for the construction of a 23.75 megawatt (MW) solar power plant, aimed at enhancing the country’s energy capacity and accelerating its transition toward renewable energy.

The project, according to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, known as “Scatec,” will also include a 10 MWp battery energy storage system, enabling more stable and reliable electricity supply. Construction is scheduled to be completed within the next 64 weeks.

“We are pleased to announce that LEC has just signed an additional agreement to construct a brand new 23.75 MW Solar Plant with 10 MWp battery storage,” the Corporation stated in a release. “This project marks another significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future.”

The new solar plant is part of broader efforts by the government and its partners to diversify Liberia’s energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and improve access to electricity for households and businesses across the country.

Details regarding the location of the plant, project funding, and implementation partners have not yet been disclosed. However, the development is expected to play a critical role in stabilizing the national grid and supporting Liberia’s long-term energy goals.
