Buchanan, Grand Bassa County ~ In a strong display of unity and determination, the Grand Bassa County Administration has announced the creation of a special Task Force aimed at tackling illegal mining, illicit dredging, and drug-related crimes that have increasingly threatened the county’s peace, environment, and development.
The decision follows a high-level Security Council meeting presided over by Superintendent Hon. Karyou Johnson, during which local leaders reaffirmed their commitment to restoring law and order and protecting the welfare of residents.
Heading the newly established Task Force is Statutory District Superintendent Michael G. Vambram, representing Neekreen Statutory District. The Task Force will include representatives from the Liberia National Police (LNP), Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Immigration, Fire Service, and other key security and administrative bodies.
Operations are set to officially commence on November 17, 2025, with a clear and uncompromising mandate — to eradicate illegal operations in Grand Bassa and ensure that the rule of law prevails.
Grand Bassa County has long been identified as a hotspot for unauthorized mining and the spread of narcotics. The formation of this Task Force marks a significant step toward reversing these trends and promoting safer, more sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
Superintendent Johnson emphasized that the initiative reflects the administration’s ongoing commitment to securing Grand Bassa’s future. “This is about protecting our people, our environment, and the generations to come,” she stated.
Residents have welcomed the move, describing it as a timely and necessary intervention to restore confidence in local governance and community safety.
As the November 17 launch approaches, optimism is growing across the county that this united front will bring lasting change and reaffirm Grand Bassa’s position as a beacon of progress and peace in Liberia’s coastal region.
