The Liberia National Police (LNP) Grand Kru County Detachment continues to face serious manpower challenges, despite recently receiving logistical support in the form of three motorcycles.
Speaking in an interview on February 2, 2026, at the LNP headquarters in Barclayville, Deputy Commander of Police Harry Blackie disclosed that two of the three motorcycles donated by the LNP national headquarters arrived in the county on February 1, 2026, with the third expected to arrive shortly.
While welcoming the donation, Deputy Commander Blackie emphasized that the detachment’s most pressing challenge remains the inadequate number of officers needed to effectively police the county.
According to him, the limited personnel currently assigned to Grand Kru County makes it difficult to adequately cover communities, respond promptly to incidents, and maintain a consistent police presence, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
He noted that although the motorcycles will improve mobility and response time, logistics alone cannot address the county’s broader security needs without sufficient manpower on the ground.
Deputy Commander Blackie therefore appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Col. Gregory O. W. Coleman, to consider deploying additional officers to Grand Kru County to strengthen law enforcement operations and enhance public safety.
He further stressed that increasing the detachment’s workforce would significantly improve the effectiveness of policing efforts and enable the LNP to better fulfill its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property throughout the county.
Despite the challenges, Deputy Commander Blackie expressed appreciation to the national headquarters for the motorcycles, describing the support as a step in the right direction.
