Grand Kru Technical College has announced tuition-free enrollment for qualified students across Liberia, a move authorities describe as a significant step toward expanding access to higher education in southeastern Liberia.
The announcement was made during the institution’s 2025/2026 Academic Year, Semester One Orientation held Friday, February 13, 2026, in Barclayville. College administrators disclosed that sustained donor-backed scholarships and financial aid programs have made it possible to waive tuition costs for eligible students.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at removing financial barriers and creating equal opportunities for Liberians seeking tertiary education.
Speaking at the program, Vice President for Administration T. Dan Jah-Bestman outlined the requirements for tuition-free admission. He stated that prospective students must successfully pass the college’s entrance examination, submit a high school diploma, provide a letter of recommendation, present official academic transcripts, and submit their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
Applicants with pending WASSCE results may be granted provisional admission but must submit their results before graduation, he added.
Mr. Jah-Bestman emphasized that although tuition is free, academic merit and full compliance with admission procedures remain mandatory.
Grand Kru Technical College currently offers Associate of Arts (AA) degrees in five disciplines: Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Agriculture, Education, and Business and Public Administration.
As the highest institution of learning in Grand Kru County, the college continues to make strides toward attaining full university status, administrators noted.
Several students attending the orientation expressed appreciation for the scholarship and financial aid opportunities, describing the tuition-free initiative as a major relief from financial burdens.
They praised the administration and the vision of the college’s founders, stating that the institution has played a key role in promoting youth empowerment, discipline, entrepreneurship, and critical thinking.
The program concluded with authorities encouraging young people nationwide to take advantage of the opportunity and enroll while the tuition-free initiative remains in effect.
