GT Bank Refutes Government’s Salary Payment Claim

Monrovia — Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank Liberia has strongly denied claims made by the Government of Liberia that it has received funds intended for the payment of civil servants’ salaries.

In a statement released to the press, the bank clarified that it has not received any money from the government for salary disbursement and therefore cannot process payments or credit beneficiaries’ accounts. According to the bank, it is not in a position to pay civil servants without the necessary funds being deposited.

The bank’s response directly contradicts recent assertions by government officials, who alleged that GT Bank had already been provided with the required funds but was delaying payments to public sector workers. Those claims sparked concern among civil servants, many of whom have been awaiting their salaries amid growing economic pressure.

GT Bank emphasized its commitment to transparency and efficient service delivery, noting that it remains ready to execute payments promptly once funds are made available by the government.

The conflicting statements have raised questions about the status of salary payments and the communication gap between the government and its financial partners. Civil servants across the country continue to monitor the situation closely, as uncertainty over salary disbursement persists.
