Guinean Foreign Minister Summons Liberia’s Chargé d’affaires Over Allegations of a Guinean Woman Being “Assaulted” By Liberian Police

A video circulating on social media showing a Fulani woman allegedly being assaulted by Liberian police has triggered a diplomatic response from Guinea, prompting the country’s Foreign Minister to summon Liberia’s chargé d’affaires in Conakry.

Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Settled Abroad, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, called in Mr. Samuel Semah on Thursday evening to express what the government described as “firm” condemnation of the actions depicted in the footage against one of their citizens.

The Guinean foreign minister demanded a full investigation and accountability from the Liberian authorities. “The perpetrators must be punished to the extent of their action,” the official statement read, referring to the need for justice in the matter.

In response, Mr. Semah thanked the minister for what he called a “frank collaboration” and described the case as an “isolated act” that the Liberian government regrets. He pledged to further discuss the matter with his superiors and assured Guinea that steps were being taken to swiftly resolve the incident.

The Guinean government emphasized its expectation that Liberia will handle the matter with transparency and seriousness, while also reaffirming the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring West African nations.

President Mamadi Doumbouya’s administration has reiterated its commitment to defending the rights and safety of Guinean citizens living or traveling abroad.
