Tensions have escalated along the Liberia–Guinea border as armed soldiers from Guinea reportedly entered Liberian territory with heavy weapons, just hours after a regional summit aimed at easing tensions.
According to reports from the border region, the soldiers crossed into Liberia through the Makona River and were seen advancing into communities near Foya, Lofa County.
Eyewitnesses claim the troops attempted to hoist the Guinean flag on Liberian soil in the presence of officers from the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), further heightening concerns over a possible territorial breach.
The incident comes shortly after leaders of the Mano River Union (MRU) convened an emergency summit in Conakry, where they pledged to de-escalate tensions and uphold respect for national sovereignty.
There has been no official response yet from either Liberian or Guinean authorities regarding the reported incursion. Meanwhile, residents in the affected communities are said to be on edge as the situation continues to develop.
